Powerman 5000 occurs as Boston-based metal band formed in 1989. Frontman Spider One (Michael Cummings), is the younger brother of Rob Zombie (Robert Cummings).

Within 1990, Spider dropped out of art school & bought the inexpensive Four-track personal studio & drum machine. Working under a title "MC Spider", he recorded "Much Evil" sustaining producer Lamar Lowder. Building in local profits, he built a band under the title Powerman 5000.
